Food safety agencies limit the amount of aflatoxin allowed in grains for human and livestock consumption. Aflatoxin testing is especially important to feed and grain producers because the uses for grain (and therefore the price) are determined by the aflatoxin level. Selecting an accurate and reliable test is important.

The ROSA WET-S5 Aflatoxin Quantitative Test detects aflatoxin rapidly and quantitatively utilizing ROSA (Rapid One Step Assay) lateral flow technology. The WET method uses an extraction powder added to the sample followed by water (e.g., bottled water) to extract aflatoxin.

In 2015, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) has awarded a 5 year contract to Charm Sciences to monitor aflatoxin in grains utilizing Charm’s ROSA WET-S5 Aflatoxin Quantitative Test (water-based) and ROSA FAST Aflatoxin Quantitative Test (solvent-based). See the announcement in the News tab below.

This Rapid One Step Assay is a quantitative lateral flow test that is read in the Charm EZ-M system or the ROSA-M Reader.

The ROSA AFQ-WET-S5 test is USDA GIPSA (Grain Inspection, Packers & Stockyards Administration) approved for detecting aflatoxin in the following commodities:

  • Barley
  • Corn,
  • Corn Flour
  • Corn Grits
  • Corn Meal
  • Corn Screenings
  • Corn/Soy Blend
  • Distillers Dried Grain with Solubles
  • Hominy
  • Oats
  • Rough Rice
  • Sorghum
  • Soybeans
  • Wheat

The ROSA AFQ-ETOH test enables grain and feed producers to quantitatively detect aflatoxin from 0 to 150 ppb. The Rapid One Step Assay is a 10-minute lateral flow test that is read in the Charm EZ-M system or the ROSA-M Reader.  Samples are extracted with 50 % ethanol.

The ROSA AFQ-ETOH test has been validated by Charm for detecting aflatoxin in the following commodities:

  • Barley
  • Brewer’s Rice
  • Corn
  • Corn Bran
  • Corn Flour
  • Corn Germ Meal
  • Corn Gluten Meal
  • Corn Meal
  • Cottonseed Hulls
  • Cottonseed Meal
  • DDGS (Distillers Dried Grain with Solubles)
  • Hominy
  • Mash
  • Milled Rice
  • Oats
  • Peanut Hulls
  • Rice Bran
  • Rice Bran (hi-fat)
  • Rice Hulls
  • Sorghum
  • Soybean Hulls
  • Soybean Meal
  • Sunflower Meal
  • Wheat
  • Wheat Bran
  • Wheat Flour
  • Wheat Midds
  • Wheat Red Dog

In three or five minutes, the ROSA AFQ-FAST test enables feed and grain producers to quantitatively detect aflatoxin. This Rapid One Step Assay is a quantitative lateral flow test that is read in the Charm EZ-M system or the ROSA-M Reader. Samples are extracted with 70 % methanol.

The ROSA AFQ-FAST test has been approved by USDA GIPSA (Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration) for corn and 24 other commodities.

The ROSA AFQ-FAST test has been approved by USDA GIPSA for the following commodities:

  • Barley
  • Brewer’s Rice
  • Brown Rice
  • Corn Flour
  • Corn Germ Meal
  • Corn Gluten Meal
  • Corn Meal
  • Corn Screenings
